We all know that you’re headed to the Dallas Comedy House this weekend for the 8th Annual Dallas Comedy Festival.
You’ve already got your tickets to Improvised Shakespeare/James Adomian and you’re aware of which Dallas-based shows you’re going to see, but what about everything else? 2017 DCF features 33 shows, and here are lesser-known options that you should check out!
If you love musical improv
Rook (Austin, TX)
Friday, 6:30 p.m. (http://dallascomedyhouse.laughstub.com/event.cfm?cart&id=483425)
They put on a very different type of musical improv show. Instead of the standard piano backing that many of these acts utilize, this team creates a synth based soundscape for a very modern take on the form.
If you want to better understand the Harold
Denver (Chicago, IL)
Saturday, 9 p.m. (http://dallascomedyhouse.laughstub.com/event.cfm?cart&id=483439)
Denver is a Harold team at iO in Chicago, IL. For those unaware, the Harold is the most famous show structure in improvisation and iO is traditionally known as the world’s No. 1 theater for the format.
If you appreciate the history of Dallas Comedy House
Atlantic Pacific Billy (Dallas, TX/Asheville, NC)
Saturday, 6:30 p.m. (http://dallascomedyhouse.laughstub.com/event.cfm?cart&id=483434)
For years and years, Atlantic Pacific Billy was the 9 p.m. Saturday closing act. From the start of the performance, they create an incredibly fun, crowd-pleasing show as they improvise their unique spin on a movie of the audience’s choice. The entire original cast is back for one night only!
James Adomian (Los Angeles, CA)
Friday, 10 p.m. (http://dallascomedyhouse.laughstub.com/event.cfm?cart&id=483430)
He’s amazing, and if you miss his show you’re dumb. Here’s proof.
