Lane Ingram Joins the Megaphone Cast This Saturday, June 26 @ 8PM

With a picture like this, do you really need to know more? Okay…we’ll clue you in, but just a bit. Mr. Lane Ingram and his big blue ball will be joining us this Saturday night in as our guest storyteller in The Megaphone Show. Lane, born in Sherman, TX and raised in Bedford, TX, knew he wanted to be one of two things growing up: a comedian or a politician. Since his parents couldn’t find a costume for either of those for Halloween, he went as Spiderman instead. But he hasn’t given up totally. He still pursues improv comedy and performs with local improv group, Gangs of Recess at
Four Day Weekend and Dallas Comedy House (nod to comedy) and has just graduated with a degree in licensed counseling, where he plans to help some folks out with his words of wisdom (nod to politics…ok far stretch, but you get it!)

You may recognize his voice from 570 KLIF or 99.5 The Wolf, where he used to grace the airwaves as a radio news anchor. He’s a big time dog lover and is terrified of heights. He thinks Pulp Fiction is the greatest movie ever made, and even considered being a film director after his first Tarantino experience. He loves red heads, meat & potatoes, and a good, cold Brooklyn lager (my kind of guy!) and is still not ashamed to buy Hot Wheels collectibles when he stops in at Walgreens.

The Purple Megaphone is for NOLA

LOOKIE LOOKIE LOOKIE!

We are thrilled to announce that The Megaphone is yet again expanding!  This summer we will teaching improv classes in association with our friends Stupid Time Machine in New Orleans!  Get all the details on improv classes in New Orleans , spread the word.

This is the beginning of something beautiful…

Thinking About Signing Up For Improv? Here’s What Our Students Have to Say…

We know you’ve tinkered with the idea. You’re still on the fence, and not quite sure whether you wanna take the leap into your first improv class. Well DCH has a swarm of students around this place all week every week, soaking in the fun. So we asked a few of them about their experience at DCH…

My experience with the Dallas Comedy House has been amazing. The instruction I’ve received while taking classes there is of the highest quality. I really feel that I’ve evolved and grown as a performer because of this experience. It is amazing what you can do on stage, and in life, when you learn to stop saying “no” to ideas and suggestions and start saying “yes.” My favorite part of Dallas Comedy House is the sense of community between faculty, students, and performers alike. It is the most nurturing and supportive comedic family I’ve ever had the honor to be a part of. I know every time I enter the red door of the Dallas Comedy House I am going to see or learn something that will blow my mind. Take a class at the Dallas Comedy House. Your life will never be the same.
-Steve G. (Level 2 Student)

I’d been interested in improv classes for a long time and for a number of reasons, such as bettering my presentation and listening skills for work. As for my personal life, well, lets just say I’d been feeling a bit uninspired. However, my life has changed dramatically since the very first class; mostly thanks to having learned the first few basic principles like listening to others, accepting any situational twist, and just learning to “let go” of any and all of my reservations. As an advertising copywriter, it’s become a new outlet for my creativity and is bettering me professionally and personally far beyond my expectations. Even those who think they never could do this, absolutely should.
-Dave F. (Level 1 Student)

I’m constantly amazed by the level of support given to every individual student from not only the teachers but the entire DCH community. There aren’t any egos and no one is in competition. Everyone is there to support each other. It’s kind of like that John Lennon song… you know… the one where he talks about how there’s no heaven.
-Darek T. (Level 3 Student)

New classes starting this Friday and Saturday!

Blake Eltis Joins The Megaphone Cast on Saturday, June 12 @ 8PM

He can sell a house. He can waterski. He can eat anything that isn’t pork or dairy. So how excited were we when native Dallasite Blake Eltis agreed to be our guest story teller for the Megaphone Show this Saturday night? Pretty darn excited, fo sho!

Blake Eltis, successful realtor for the Ben Jones group and recipient of the 2009 Young Leadsership Award for the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, graduated with a degree in Corporate Communication from the University of Texas. Not one to sit around and wait for things to happen, he quickly jumped on board with a start-up group in Austin, before moving back to his stomping grounds here in Dallas. “One time one of my clients asked me to show her mother some houses, even though her mother had no intention of buying a house for at least 3 years,” he said, when asked some of the bizarre requests he receives from clients. Did he do it? Yeah. Will he again? Yeah, probably. “It’s all about the sale,” said Eltis. But when he’s not out pushing casas, you’ll find him at the lake almost every weekend working on his tan and dreaming about Megan Fox.

Come see Blake in the Megaphone Show this Saturday @ 8PM!

Whitnee Kraemer Joins the Megaphone Show on Saturday, June 6th

Miss Whitnee Kramer will join the Megaphone Show this Saturday night and share her stories of life, love and all things random. Hailing from good old Irving, Texas, Whitnee always dreamed of being a lawyer or a butcher when she was growing up. Now a Phlebotmist(it’s okay, go ahead and click on the link…we had to look it up too!) by trade, she loves Pinot Noir and reciting Waiting for Guffman in her spare time. She prefers winter over summer, evening over morning, and Cheese Nips over CheezIts. She’s perfectly content sipping Diet Dr. Pepper and dreaming of the day Jimmy Fallon gives her a pearl necklace. (The wearable kind, y’all…come on!)

Come see Whitnee this Saturday night at 8PM inspire the Megaphone cast as they perform a totally improvised show based on the stories Whitnee tells.

Andrea Grimes Joins the Megaphone Show on Saturday, May 22 @ 8PM

It’s pretty cool to run across someone who not only has a gift of the written word, but the spoken one as well. This week, notable journalist Andrea Grimes joins the Megaphone Show as our guest storyteller extraordinaire. When Andrea’s not writing, she loves hanging out with her cats, Whiskey and Sake from what is certain to be a ground floor dwelling, as she’s terrified of heights. She loves coffee with her sugar and cream, John Cusack, and weasling her way into apartment complexes to soak in some sun on the weekends. She thinks Lilo is a trainwreck, (but has total potential for an upswing at any given time), thinks Yoga is stupid, and believes William Henry Harrison is by far the best president we’ve had (special thanks to Funny or Die).

Born in Arlington and raised in Mansfield, Andrea played with her heard of Barbies as a child and dabbled in guitar playing in hopes of pursuing her dream of becoming of Christian Rock star. When those plans fell through, she headed to the Big Apple where she received an individualized B.A. in new media from New York University, where she worked for Golf Digest, Seventeen, and SPIN. She came back to her roots where she began her stint as a reporter for the Dallas Observer where her Girl on Top column graced the publication biweekly, as well as articles varying from women’s issues to the audition process for a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader wannabe. She then trucked it down to Austin where she just recently graduated with an M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Texas, all the while still putting pen to paper for the Austin Chronicle, Village Voice Media, Salon, TRIBEZA, and the Meeting Professional.

We’re stoked Andrea’s joining us this weekend.
Get your tickets now, ’cause this is gonna be a big one!

Marc Hall Joins the Megaphone Cast on 5.8.10

He’s no stranger to the industry, that’s for sure. Marc Hall, who currently has his on radio show on UTA…, will join this week’s megaphone cast as our guest storyteller. Marc hails from Odessa, TX where, as a child, he dreamed about opening up his on cereal bar, a la Luby’s or Furrs. When those dreams were crushed, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After five years of service, he made his way to NYC where he lived in Harlem, ate hot sauce sandwiches everyday and made $400 a month…and loved every minute of it. He’s since moved back to Dallas where he’s finishing up his education at UTA. If you’re real nice to him on Saturday, he might just sing one of his favorite Beastie Boys songs or quote the movie Cool Hand Luke…or so we’ve heard.
